In this article we want to tell you more about the Thunderbolt™. The original self-tapping anchor.

What is the Thunderbolt™?

The Thunderbolt has the power you need to use it across a wide range of construction materials, including concrete, stone, brick, and block. The Thunderbolt comes in a variety of types, including:
  • Hexagon flange head
  • Hexagon head
  • Countersunk torx
  • Eye bolt anchor
  • Hook bolt anchor
The Thunderbolt self-tapping anchor is also available galvanised. This gives it the capability to last longer in more demanding environments. In marine and industrial locations, for example.

Why choose the Thunderbolt™?

The threaded anchor and self-tapping action of the Thunderbolt provides safe anchorage. The substrate becomes the nut to the bolt, a tried and tested method to suit a broad range of materials. To add to the Thunderbolt’s versatility, you can also install them nearer to edges and closer together at varying depths. Thunderbolts are truly stress-free fixings.

How do you install the Thunderbolt™?

Thunderbolts are quick and easy to install. It’s an ideal general-purpose anchor, even when it comes to temporary fixing, as you can remove them easily when you need to. To install a Thunderbolt, simply drill the recommended hole in the substrate and screw the Thunderbolt in with a power drill or a socket. The Thunderbolt will tap it’s own thread in the base material creating a secure fixing. You can fix Thunderbolts using standard sized drill bits, which makes using Thunderbolts cost effective as well as straightforward.

Do I need a washer with a Thunderbolt™?

It is not essential to use a washer with a Thunderbolt, however a washer will help to spread the load in softer materials such as timber to prevent splitting, and will also cover any large holes in the workpiece.

Who should use the Thunderbolt™?

Due to its quality, versatility, and ease-of-use, a wide range of tradespeople can use the Thunderbolt. It’s a great fixing to have to hand for:
  • General builders
  • Mechanical engineers
  • Property developers/investors/renovators
  • Property maintenance contractors
  • Roofing contractors
  • Shopfitters/office fitters
