If you're a builder, roofer, floor layer, or joiner, the fixing you choose makes a big difference to how quickly you can work and how good the finished result looks.

Tongue-Tite screws are purpose-built for tongue-and-groove flooring and timber cladding. They're quick to install, leave a clean, hidden finish, and hold boards firmly for years.

In this blog, we'll explain how they work and why they’re such a useful fixing.

A screw designed for tongue-and-groove

Tongue-Tite screws are ideal for tongue-and-groove applications. Their slim design and narrow countersunk head sit neatly within the timber, so the next board slots cleanly into place.

They also feature a star recess for excellent grip and control when driving them in, speeding up installation and reducing the risk of slipping or damaging the board.

Why are they also called 'secret screws'?

Tongue-Tite screws are often referred to as ‘secret screws’ because they’re hidden from view once installed. The countersunk head disappears into the timber, leaving a clean surface with no visible fixings.

What are they used for?

Floor layers, joiners, and builders use Tongue-Tite screws across a range of domestic and commercial projects.

They perform well in tongue-and-groove timber flooring, timber cladding, new house builds and renovation work, from single-room refurbishments through to large industrial units.

Why are Tongue-Tite screws so effective?

  • Saves time – no pilot hole needed

You can drive Tongue-Tite screws straight in without pre-drilling, which saves time on larger jobs. If you're laying flooring throughout an entire house or fitting cladding across a commercial unit, cutting out the pre-drilling stage can make installation much quicker.

  • Floorboards stay tight and quiet

The single coarse thread gives excellent pull-out retention, helping the screw grip firmly and hold its position. That secure grip keeps boards locked tightly together, reducing movement over time and helping to prevent loose boards and annoying squeaks.

  • No wood splitting, even close to the edge

The fine thread also means you can drive screws close to the edge of the board without splitting the timber – useful when working in tight spots where traditional fixings tend to cause damage.

  • Easy to remove

Unlike glue or nails, Tongue-Tite screws come out cleanly without damaging the timber. If boards need lifting later to replace a damaged section or to access underfloor pipework, they can be reused rather than replaced.

How to use them

Drive the screw in at a 45-degree angle using a power drill. Once in place, the head sits flush within the board's groove, letting the next board slot neatly over it. Every box from Fastco includes two Torx 10 driver bits, so you can get started straight away.

Available in various sizes and finishes

Tongue-Tite screws are available in both stainless steel and zinc-plated finishes. Stainless steel comes in 32mm, 45mm, 49mm, and 60mm. For corrosion resistance, zinc-plated screws are available in 45mm.

For darker materials such as black charred cladding, composite decking, or slatwall panels, Tongue-Tite Plus Black Stainless Steel screws give the same performance with a finish that blends into the material.
